The first step is to identify the document, the authorisation and any ongoing procedure. A date printed on a CRNM, a request for documents and a change of address do not call for the same action.

The review brings together the official notice, when it was received, the residence basis and previous applications. Online legal guidance organises that review; Federal Police registration and biometric collection may require attendance in person.

Situations

Situations this area covers

I received a request for documents and do not know how to answer

Dra. Simone reads the request, notice or decision, checks its date and the stated deadline, and organises the response with the documents the act calls for. Document analysis is the core of the work here.

How documents are reviewed
My CRNM is about to expire

The CRNM is the registration card, distinct from the residence authorisation. Dra. Simone checks which of the two is expiring, what the case requires and which steps call for attending in person.

How documents are reviewed
My circumstances changed after the first application

Marriage, separation, a new address, a new job or the end of a contract change what residence requires. Dra. Simone compares the current situation with the recorded basis and indicates the administrative step.

How documents are reviewed

Asked for more documents: organising the answer

A request for additional documents identifies information the authority needs to continue its review. Read the complete notice, the issuing authority, the case number, what is missing and the channel indicated for replying. A request for documents and a refusal are different acts.

The date of receipt and the stated deadline need to be checked together with the applicable procedural rule. Keep the notice and the record of when it was received. The response should address what was requested; the deadline cannot be established from the document’s title alone.

Renewing residence, or only the CRNM card?

Residence authorisation provides the legal basis for staying in Brazil. The CRNM is the identification card issued following registration. The card’s expiry date alone does not determine whether a residence authorisation must be extended, changed or whether a replacement card is needed.

The review compares the residence basis and period with the card, the filing receipt and any changes of circumstance. The Federal Police registration procedure includes biometric identification and may require attendance in person, even when legal guidance is online.

Visa, residence and CRNM: what differs

A visa is issued by a Brazilian consular authority and concerns entry for a stated purpose. Residence authorisation concerns staying in Brazil under a legal ground. The CRNM identifies the foreign national following registration with the Federal Police. They are separate documents and decisions.

Some routes begin abroad; others can be examined after arrival. The circumstances determine the sequence and the responsible authority. Immigration residence also differs from tax residence, which is governed by its own rules.

After residence, everyday legal matters

Living in Brazil also involves leases, purchases, banking and other consumer services. These questions belong to the contract and consumer areas of Dra. Simone’s practice, each with its own scope of review.
